In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

believe in the like of that which ye believe, then are they rightly guided.
And if they turn away, then they are in schism, so Allah will suffice thee

Commentary
Holy Qur’an invites the People of the Scripture to
embrace Islam after proving its Truth and being the Word of Allah Almighty, and
it refutes their false beliefs. Wrong hopes and desires were determined absurd,
and it proves from their own arguments that due to which religion of Abraham
(peace be upon Him) they claim to be firm, its original form has not remained
as it was. Now that ancient religion, in its original form, is being presented
by the Holy Qur’an. So
somehow or other, after embracing Islam they should acquire betterment of the
religion and the world.
After hearing these verses of advice and
preaching, even then, the Children of Israel and the Christians
remained standing on violence and opposite. Moreover, instead of embracing
Islam themselves, they used to invite the Muslims to adopt the Jewish religion
and the Christianity. What can be more selfishness, impudence and bigotry than
it?
Allah Almighty commands in this verse, “(O
Messenger! (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) You have fulfilled
your duty conveying Our Message to them. Now, if they are desirous of their
goodness, then they should embrace Islam. They will succeed. We shall forgive
their previous sins”. “And if they believe in the like of that which ye
believe, then are they rightly guided. And if they turn away, then they are in
schism”, it is their hardheartedness and violence, and not other than it.
“So Allah will suffice Thee (for defence) against them. And He is the Hearer,
the Knower”. (You (glory, grace, blessings and peace be upon Him) should not be
sorrowful due to their anger, bigotry and enmity. We shall suffice for their
encounter from your side. We surely hear their entire talks and We know that
which is in their hearts, their inside and outside.
How great and higher glad-tidings is in the
last part of this verse for the Last Messenger (glory, grace, blessings and
peace be upon Him) and His nation that “So Allah will suffice thee (for
defence) against them”. With whom is Allah Almighty, what more will he need? If
Lord Merciful becomes Protecting Friend of anyone then he does not require any
more Supporters.
