Abu Amer -
an enemy of Islam
Chapter Tawbah (Repentance)
– Surah – 9)
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

وَلَيَحْلِفُنَّ إِنْ أَرَدْنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَٰذِبُونَ 107b
لَاتَقُمْ فِيهِ أَبَدًا 108a

107b.
And they will surely swear: We purposed naught save good. And Allah beareth
witness that they verily are liars.
108a. Never stand (to pray) there.

107b. Wa layahlifunna ‘in
‘aradnaaa ‘illal-husnaa. Wallaahu yash-hadu
‘innahum lakaa-zibuun.
108a. Laa taqum fiihi ‘abadaa.

Commentary
Out from Madinah city,
there was a ward; named “Qubaa”. When Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu
alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) reached Madinah after
departure from Makkah; He (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii
Wasallam) stayed at first in that ward. After His (SallAllaahu
alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) move, the people constructed a Masjid;
where He (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) used to offer
prayers (in Qubaa). The name of that Mosque is Masjid Qubaa.
All inhabitants of that ward used to offer prayers in that Masjid.
Opposite to them, some people
built another Masjid in Qubaa and requested
the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam): We have
constructed this Masjid for the comfort of those people who
are old, nearby it, and necessitous. Please offer prayer in that Masjid once,
so that it may become blessed.
At that time, God’s
Messenger (SallAll aahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) was going
to be prepared for moving unto Tabuuk for the purpose of war.
He (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) said to them: At this
stage I have no leisure time. After returning from Tabuuk, it will
be arranged. When He (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) returned
and was very near to Madinah, then these verses were revealed on
Him.
It has been described in these
verses: Newly constructed Masjid has been built for harming the Muslims.
You should never stand there for praying. Those people, who have constructed
it, are Hypocrites and mortal foes of Islam. Abu Amer was from
the tribe of Banu Khazraj, embraced Christianity and had become a
priest. The people used to give him honor.
When Messenger of Allah
Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) arrived
at Madinah, Abu Amer observed that his credit is
going to be ruined, then he was enemy of Islam and he helped the Infidels in
every Battle (Ghazwah). At last he left Madinah, went to
Syria and wrote to the Hypocrites of Madinah from there: Build
a Mosque so that we may abide there. Very soon, I shall bring the residents of
Syria who will attack on Muslims and finish them.
It is commanded: these cunning
people have built this Mosque for the help of infidelity, sowing dissension
between the Muslims, and as a lurking place for Abu Amer, the foe
of Allah Almighty and His Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii
Wasallam). They tell a lie that their intention is good. Allah Almighty
bears witness that they are liars. You should never stand there for prayer.
Therefore, God’s Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam)
commanded the Muslims after reaching Madinah: Demolish that Mosque.
So His (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) commandment was
obeyed.
