Abraham – a friend of God

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

125.  And who is better in religion that he who surrendereth his purpose to Allah while doing good (to men) and followeth the tradition of Abraham, the upright? And Allah (Himself) chose Abraham for friend.

126.  Unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. And Allah ever surroundeth all things.
125.  Wa  man ‘ahsanu  diinam-mimman  ‘aslama  waj-hahuu  Lillaahi  wa  huwa  Muhsinunw-wattaba-‘a  Millata  ‘Ibraa-hiima  Haniifaa.  Wattakha-zAllaahu ‘Ibraahii-ma  Khaliilaa.

126.  Wa  Lillaahi  maa  fissamaa-waati  wa  maa  fil-‘arz.  Wa  kaanAllaahu  bi-kulli  shay-‘im-Muhiitaa.

    Commentary

‘Aslama  – (surrendered, caused to bend downward, bowed one’s forehead), this word has been derived from the word Islam, the word Muslim is also from it. Islam means “to admit the truth and to obey”.

‘Aslama  waj-hahuu – (surrendered one’s purpose to), means accepted obedience and bowed one’s head humbly.

Muhsinun – (one who favors, a benefactor), the gracious and the kind, means “the righteous and the good doer”.

Haniifaa – it is from Haniif, which means ‘to be inclined, to bow down to one side’. Haniif  is also a Title of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him), here it means ‘someone, who adopts a true religion by giving up all self-invented religions.

It was the summary of the previous lesson, “Each religious group considers that its religion is the best”. They all expect that the rid will only be gotten by their religion, while remaining entire religions have no importance. It has been told in these verses that these (above mentioned) thoughts are useless, and taught that it is just like “Self-praise is no recommendation”. If you are really seeking the truth, then you should hear a common rule by opening your ears and stop bragging.

One unbreakable rule has been prescribed for the entire human beings, whether they live in any part of the earth, and whether they call themselves the Jews, the Christians, the Muslims or something else, “As you sow, so you shall reap”. None should think that either their spiritual guides or relatives will save them from the punishment of their evil doings. As the Christians use to say, “Prophet Jesus Christ (peace be upon Him) has atoned against our sins by sacrificing himself and bearing pains. Now we are tension-free from any punishment. We shall not be caught for punishment, whatsoever we do”.

In these verses it has been described clearly that the true religion is only of those people, who have bowed down towards Allah Almighty and have been acting upon His prescribed religious laws of Islam happily, and have accepted wholeheartedly the Tradition of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him), the Upright, Who left everyone and Whom Allah Almighty (Himself) chose as His friend. It is evident that those entire beauties are found only in the Companions (Razii Allaahu Ta-‘aalaa ‘Anhum) of the Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). After that, the final decision was caused to hear that “Unto Allah Almighty belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. And He ever surrounds all things”. Nobody can do any more before Him.
